Why do geographers use a variety of maps to represent the world?
Overview
Students learn to read and analyze various types of thematic maps that geographers use to represent the world. Using six different world maps, students learn how to get information about physical features, climate, vegetation, population density, economic activity, and regions. They read about the maps and their legends, take notes, and dramatize three of the maps. Students then apply their understanding by using all six thematic maps to create a poem about a country of their choice.
